A commercial dishwasher saves hours of labour every week. Choosing the right one comes down to volume, space and your water and power supply.
1. Pick the right type
- Underbench dishwashers and glasswashers fit under the counter and suit bars, cafés and smaller kitchens.
- Pass-through (hood) dishwashers let staff slide racks straight through from the dirty side to the clean side. They're built for busy restaurants, clubs and hotels.
2. Match the capacity to your service
Capacity is usually listed in baskets (racks) per hour. Count how many plates, glasses and utensils you get through in your busiest hour and choose a machine that keeps up without staff waiting on it.
3. Check power, plumbing and water quality
Smaller machines often run on a 15A outlet, while larger pass-through models typically need 415V three-phase power, so check the product page before you order. You'll also need a water connection and a drain. Hard water leaves scale on glasses and inside the machine, so consider a water filter or softener if your area has hard water.
4. Measure your space
