How to choose the right bar fridge

A commercial bar fridge keeps drinks cold and on show in a compact space. Here's what to look for.

1. Glass door or solid door?

Glass doors show off your drinks and help sell them, which suits bars, cafés and front counters. Solid doors hold the cold better and suit back-of-bar storage where display doesn't matter.

2. Choose the size and number of doors

Single door bar fridges suit small spaces, while two and three door models hold much more stock along a back bar. Check the capacity in litres and use the Width filter to find models that fit your counter.

3. Check it fits under the counter

Measure the height, width and depth under your bar, and remember the door needs room to swing open. Leave a gap around the unit for airflow, because a unit that can't breathe works harder and wears out sooner.

4. Climate and power

Check the maximum ambient temperature in the spec table, and choose a tropical-rated model if your kitchen or bar runs hot. Most bar fridges plug into a standard 10A power point.
